Fragmentos
C776 Diptych / BYE / Woodcut / 108 x 150 cm / 2019
The Fragments series was created in 2019 at the CIEC Foundation (Betanzos, A Coruña) based on the re-contextualization of three iconic themes: crowds, ruins, and brutalist architecture.
Some of the techniques used include successive juxtaposition and overlay, as well as rhetorical devices such as repetition, metaphor, and hyperbole, translated into graphic form through woodcut printing.
A crowd suddenly invades a landscape desolate from the passage of time, of people confronting sober, brutalist buildings. A contrast that is initially anachronistic, based on the juxtaposition of seemingly random elements, yet simultaneously feels particularly close. The impossibility of linear narration is a constant in the story we present.
Taking as a reference one of the foundations of our work: the reinterpretation of ‘‘Estampa Popular ‘‘, we see that it sought to document specific events and facts, while today's society, the globalized society Lipovetsky referred to as the world-culture, resists being portrayed.
